Forearm Flashcards
pain over lateral epicondyle & posterior surface of forearm & especially tendon of extensor carpi radialis brevis
elbow tendinitis/lateral epicondylitis
no movement at distal IP joint
baseball finger
fall followed by triceps contraction
fracture of olecranon
non-tender cystic swelling on dorsum of wrist full of mucinous fluid which may or may not compress median nerve in carpal tunnel
synovial cyst or ganglion cyst
where would a high division of brachial artery divide into radial and ulnar arteries?
superior or middle part of arm
ulnar artery that descends superiorly to flexor muscles
superficial ulnar artery (important when doing a venipuncture)
where can you measure pulse rate?
radial artery at distal radius lateral to flexor carpi radialis tendon & in anatomical snuffbox
flexion of proximal/distal IP joint of D1-3 lost & flexion of proximal IP weakened in D4/5; flexion of MP joint affected; thenar function lost
median nerve injury
thenar muscles unaffected, paresis of flexor digitorm profundus & flexor pollicis longus (abnormal pinch)
anterior interosseus syndrome
compression of median nerve in heads of pronator teres; pain in proximal aspect of forearm
pronator sydrome
slender nerves in forearm that allow for muscle function after median nerve injury
communications between median and ulnar nerves
what are the four main places the ulnar nerve can be injured?
- posterior to medial epicondyle
- cubital tunnel (teninous arch connecting heads of FCU
- carpal tunnel
- Guyon’s canal (ulnar canal syndrome)
cubital tunnel syndrome?
compression of ulnar nerve under tendinous arch of FCU tendons
parathesia of medial palm & medial 1.5 fingers, impaired wrist adduction, no flexion of distal IP at D4/5, no extention of IP joints
claw hand —> ulnar nerve injury
loss of thumb & MP joint extension, no sensory loss, injury in arm proximal to deep (motor) branch of radial nerve
wrist drop
