Axilla Flashcards
what part of axillary artery is compressed when profuse bleeding occurs?
3rd part —> in between lateral border of pec minor & terest major
collateral circulation of scapula
if axillary artery is ligated, blood flow reverses in subscapular artery (from arterial anastomoses of scapula), which enables blood to reach 3rd part of axillary artery
is there enough collateral circulation if axillary artery is ligated between subscapular artery & deep artery of the arm?
NO. periarticular anastomoses aren’t enough circulation at this point
compression of trunks of brachial plexus—> anesthesia & pain
aneurysm of 1st part of axillary artery (baseball pitchers)
why is important to know that the subclavian vein is anterior & inferior to the axillary artery and brachial plexus?
for subclavian vein puncture
enlargement of axillary lymph vessels & nodes
vessels: lymphangitis
nodes: lymphandentitis
enlargement of what structure can cause obstruction of the cephalic vein?
apical nodes
