Fluids Flashcards
What are fluids
Substance that has the capacity to flow and assume the form of its container into which it has been poured
Are gels a fluid
Yes, they take the form of their container
What is a compressible fluid
Whose volume can change in response to a change in pressure
What type of fluid is in a gas
Compressible fluid. If you change the container that the gas is in, it expands to fill the new one
What type of fluid is a liquid
Incompressible fluid. If you change its container the volume will stay the same.
What is an incompressible fluid
Whose volume cannot change when pressure is applied
What is pressure
Result of a force applied in a perpendicular fashion
What is force
An action applied to an object that changes shape of mouvement of that object
What is surface area
Surface dimension of object that is applying force
What happens when there’s more surface area
Less pressure
What happens when there’s less surface area
More pressure
How do you calculate pressure
Force divided by surface area
