Florescence/ inflorescence > pedicel (stem)> calyx (sepal) > corolla (petals) > stamen > carpels > symmetry
What feature is used often to identify plants, and why?
flowers, because they are more reliable than vegetative characteristics
What are the sterile parts of the flower?
sepals/ calyx
petals/ corolla
What is the perianth?
the calyx and corolla
What does the sepal do?
protect flower bud
What is the stamen, and what does it include?
male reproductive structures
anthers/ filamets

stamen
What is the pistil?
the female portion (carpel), including the stigma, style, and ovary
What is the gynoecium?
the carpels
What is a complete flower?
Possesses the sepals, petals, stamens, and carpels
What is an incomplete flower?
missing one of the four main floral parts
What is a perfect flower?
a bisexual flower with both stamen and carpel
What is an imperfect flower?
unisexual flower missing either the stamen or carpel
What is a staminate flower?
a male unisexual flwoer with just the stamen
What is a carpellate flower?
a female unisexual flower with just carpels present.
