A

Flaccidity syndrome refers to some paralytic conditions, resulting in flaccidity and weakness of the limbs, accompanied by muscular atrophy, or loss of motor function. It is also called “flaccid lame” for the leg is usually involved.

A

Manifestations: Muscular flaccidity or atrophy along with weakness of the limbs, often occurs in the lower limbs with motor impairment or paralysis; red tongue with yellow coating, Thready and rapid pulse.

Treatment principle: dissipate heat, nourish the tendon and muscles

Acupoint selection:

  • Treat the LU: LU5, BL13
  • Upper Limb: LI15, LI11, LI4, SJ5
  • Lower Limb: ST31, ST34, ST36, ST41, GB30, GB34, GB39

Damp heat

A

Manifestations: Flaccidity of four limbs with motor impairment, heavy or slight swollen legs, general heavy of the body; a yellow and stick tongue coating, a soft and rapid pulse.

Treatment principle: Clear heat and drain dampness

Acupoint selection:

  • Nourish the SP: SP9, BL20
  • Upper Limb: LI15, LI11, LI4, SJ5

Liver and kidney yin deficiency

A

Manifestations: Flaccidity syndrome may develop slowly, weakness and inability of the limbs, soreness and weakness of the back and lumbar region, a red tongue with less coating, a thready and rapid pulse.

Treatment principle: Nourish KI and LR Yin.

Acupoint selection:

  • Treat the zang: BL18, BL23
  • Upper Limb: LI15, LI11, LI4, TB5
  • Lower Limb: ST31, ST34, ST36, ST41, GB30, GB34, GB39
