Fentanyl - Indications
- Significant Pain
- Sedation (maintenance of an established ETT)
- Autonomic dysreflexia (with BP greater 180mmHg)
Fentanyl - Contraindications
- KSAR or hypersensitivity to Fentanyl
Fentanyl - Precautions
- Elderly patients
- Hypotension
- Respiratory tract burns
- Respiratory depression and/or failure
- Known addiction to narcotics
- Current MAOI therapy
Fentanyl - Side Effects
- Bradycardia
- Drowsiness
- Hypotension
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Pin point pupils
- Respiratory depression
- Muscular rigidity (particularly muscles of respiration)

Fentanyl - Significant Pain and Autonomic Dysreflexia Adult Doses
IM - 25-100mcg, repeated at up to 50mcg every 10 min, no max
IV - 25mcg, repeated every 5 mins, no max
Fentanyl - Sedation Adult Doses
IV - 25mcg, PRN, no max
Fentanyl - Significant Pain Paediatric Doses
NAS - 1.5mcg/kg repeated once at 1mcg/kg at 10 min, max 100mcg
IM - 2mcg/kg, repeated once at 1mcg/kg at 10 min, no max
IV - 1mcg/kg, repeat at 0.5mcg/kg, repeat every 5 mins, no max
