Feasibility studies- 1.12 Flashcards
What do feasibility studies involve?
Feasibility studies involves the analysis and evaluation of the design ideas, design prototypes and plans for making. It is important to check if the proposed design meets the needs of the target market. Businesses need to assess if the design is feasible or if there are alternative ideas which could be used instead
what do feasibility studies inform a development team?
Of any possible modifications and improvements which could be made to the prototype so that the final design is successful
How do fashion designers develop their design ideas?
By making prototypes to test and evaluate the success of the garment.
how could prototype products be tested?
-showing them to people who may buy them and asking for their opinion
-one to one interviews
-focus groups could be consulted
-the prototype may be trialed and tested by a group of people
what do the results from focus groups allow?
They allow for designers to get useful information about how the design could be modified to make it more useful and appealing to the target market
what do market researchers do?
Collect data about potential consumers and what they would prefer to buy e.g they can do this through a questionnaire and the pie charts and graphs produced from these questionnaires can be used to analyse the information received
why do feasibility studies consider product scale and dimensions?
Product scale and dimensions need to be considered as this will affect the product’s retail cost- e.g the longer the dress length, the more fabric that will be used, and the overall retail price of the garment will be higher.
how are the standard measurements of the average human body recorded?
In chart form to guide designs and product developers when planning the scale and size of garments to fit the body.
what are the standard measurements of the human body known as ?
Anthropometrics
Can Anthropometrics be different in different countries?
Yes- there are differences in standard measurements between countries- this is as measurements are taken using different units of measurements (e.g cm and inches) and the standard measurements and average sizes also differ between populations. Therefore, designers and product developers need to consider where they intend to sell the clothes, so the garment size is approximate
How are standard measurements of sizes described differently around the world?
A UK size 10 In women’s is equivalent to a US size 8 and a size 38 in France, Spain and Portugal
how are garments made in a variety of different sizes?
Designers and product developers will be guided by the use of Anthropometric data and a pattern grader will adjust the pattern proportions to give a range of different sizes for the same product
what is pattern grading?
where pattern designers use anthropometric and ergonomic data to grade patterns for different sizes
