Excretion SWYK reflection - M5 Flashcards
What symptoms would you expect with someone who doesn’t respond to ADH
why
-High volume of urine, Always thirsty
Because fewer aquaporins in the membrane of the collecting duct
which characteristics should be taken into account when using GFR measurement to diagnose kidney damage?
GFR measures creatinine= formed from a breakdown of creatinine phosphate in the muscles
-Diet, affect level of creatinine
-Gender, men typically have more muscle
During detoxification , paracetamol is metabolised in the liver as follows :
-5% oxidesed by P450 enzyme system which produces NAPQI
-NAPQI is then metabolised using another component called glutathione
Suggest reasons for accumilation of high concentrations of NAPQI in the liver cells
-NOT enough glutathione
-enzyme catalysing glutathione reaction is at V max
-NAPQI can’t cross cell membrane
