Exam Two: Mucosal Immunity Flashcards
What is the Lymphoid System?
The tissues involved in the production and circulation of lymphocytes
What is the Payer’s Patch in MALT?
It is the organized lymphoid tissue in the small intestine.
What are the isolated groups of B cells called:
Lymphoid Follicles
What is the function of M cells in the Peyer’s Patch?
They capture bacteria and deliver them and their antigens to dendritic cells and lymphocytes in the Peyer’s Patch
What is the function of tight junctions?
Located between the epithelial cells, they prevent leakage of fluid and pathogens from the gut lumen into other tissue.
Goblet Cell:
Where mucus is produced - a glycoprotein that protects the epithelium
Name all the Defensive shields in the mucosal system:
- Peyer’s Patch and M cells
- IgA
- TH17 and TReg cells
- Tight Junctions and Paneth Cells secretions
