Chapter 3: Antigen Presentation Flashcards
What does a B cell receptor bind to?
Antigens that are present on Intact pathogens
Reminder: What are antigens?
A fragment or a piece of a pathogen
What does an antigen bind to?
An intact pathogen
What is secreted from the B cell Receptor?
Antibodies
What is the coreceptor for Helper T Cells?
CD4+ is the coreceptor
What is the coreceptor for Cytotoxic T Cells?
CD8+ is the coreceptor
What does CD4+ bind to?
It binds to antigens present on MHC II
What does CD8+ bind to?
It binds to antigens present on MHC I
What does MHC mean?
Major histocompatibility complex
When a pathogen like a virus infects the cell, its antigens will be presented on a MHC II or II molecule?
A MHC I molecule since it is an infection on the inside of the cell
What is a lymph vessel?
function as a drainage system for excess fluids from tissues
What is a lymph Node?
Connection point of two or more lymph vessels
What is the site of Leukocyte interactions
the lymph nodes
When a dendritic cell is activated where does it migrate to?
to the tissue of origin but the the lymph node its closest to
What does B and T cell development involve?
- Generation of antigen diversity
- removal or inhibition of self reactive cells
- clonal expansion of cells that have useful antigen receptor
