uncontrolled production of abnormal platelets -> thrombosis

vaso-occlusive complications, bleeding

how do you diagnose ET?
A
exclude reactive thrombocythaemia -> blood loss, malignancy, iron deficiency
exclude CML
genetics -> JAK2, CALR, MPL

how is it managed?
A
aspirin (reduce thrombotic risk)
