What is Erythema Multiforme?
A
- This is an immune-mediated hypersensitvity reaction that is commonly triggered by infections

What are the Clinical Features of Erythema Multiforme?
A
- Target Lesions ( central, dusky areas of epidermal necrosis, surronded by a lighter oedematous area)
- Back of hands/feet after spreading to torso
- Pruritis
- Mucosal Features: Lesions develop as blisters, which then break to reveal shallow erosions.

What are the complications of erythema multiforme?
A
- Keratitis
- Conjunctival Scarring
- Uveitis
- Permanent Visual Impairment

How is erythema multiforme diagnosed?
A
- LFTs
- ESR
- Skin biopsy with histopathology

What is the treatment for erythema multiforme?
A
- Itch = antihistamines or oral steroids
- ## Pain = oral washes with anaesthetic

What are some of the causes of erythema multiforme?
A
- Viruses: HSV
- Idiopathic
- Bacteria: Mycoplasma, Strepotococcus
- Drugs: Penicilli, sulphonamides, carbamazepine, allopurinol, NSAIDs, Oral contraceptives
- Sarcoidosis
- Malignancy
- Connective tissue disease ( SLE)
