mild headache runny nose and low grade fever may precede rash by 1-2 days.
3 phases
PHASE 1- begins abruptly w an asymptomatic erythema of the cheeks. referred as “slapped cheek” - diffuse and macular but tiny translucent papules may be present. most intense beneath the eyes and may extend ober the cheeks in a butterfly wing pattern.
perioral area lids and chin are usually inaffected.
after 1-4 days, SECOND PHASE- Discrete erytjematous macules and papules on the proximal extremities and later trunk. evolved into a RETICULATE OR LACY PATTERN.
last 5-9 days.
Third phase: RECURRING STAGE. The eruption is greatly reduced or invincible only to recur agterthe px is exposed to heat. or sunlight. in response to crying or exercise.
