8
Q

what is keratinizing

A

Epithelial cells which produce keratin and in doing so die becoming thicker, stronger, protective structures
Such cells lose their cellular organelles and nuclei, not visible under light microscopy.

9
Q

whats non k

A

Epithelial cells which do not undergo keratinisation. They retain their nuclei and organelles.
protect underlying tissues for various physical and chemical insults

Q

which part of the membrane are mitochdroa associated with

A

associated with extensive basal membrane infoldings, providing energy for active transport across the abundant membranes. The infoldings increase the amount of basal membrane that can pump ions and water.

16
Q

describe Epithelial turnover in the small intestine

A

new cells are constantly being produced by the crypt stem cells, to replace the cells constantly being lost from the villus tip.

17
Q

side effects of cancer chemo

A

results in inhibition of the proliferation of intestinal crypt cells
results in loss of the finger-like intestinal villi
gastro-intestinal disturbances that are side-effects of chemotherapy.
Cell loss from the villus tips continues as normal, but the failure to produce new cells to replace the lost cells results in a loss of tissue and the villi shorten.
