Enthalpy cycles/hess cycles - DF Flashcards
1
Q
Why are enthalpy cycles used
A
as not all enthalpy changes can be measured directly but we can find the enthalpy change indirectly
2
Q
Hess’s law (Hess cycles)
A
the overall energy change for a reaction is the same whatever route is taken
3
Q
If given combustion values for an enthalpy change and want to find enthalpy change of formation how will you write out the formula
A
formation of the compound at the top, the both arrows pointing down to CO₂ and H₂0 (balanced)
4
Q
If given formation values for an enthalpy change and want to find enthalpy change of combustion how will you write out the formula
A
reactants and products at the top, both arrows pointing up to elements of the reactants/products
