Write about the tragic stories of Animal Farm, Hercules, and Romeo & Juliet. What lessons can be learned? Why would these lessons matter to a Christian?
Animal farm: The story starts with Old Major giving a speech on instructing the animals to not be like humans and giving 7 rules to the animals to keep them in line. But it ends with the pigs absolutely bending all the rules and becoming exactly humans to the point where the other animals couldn't distinguish the pigs from the humans. Hercules: Hercules is a demigod with incredible strength, but he lacks self control and that led him to kill his family and he had to live carrying that guilt. Since Hercules killed his family, he had to make up for it by doing labors that were almost impossible. Romeo and Juliet: Romeo and Juliet fell in love with each other, but they are family enemies so they had to keep their relationship a secret. In the story, many adversities happen, Mercutio, Tybalt, Lady Capulet, and Count Paris die, Romeo get's banished from Verona, and Juliet fakes her death. In the end, both Romeo and Juliet kill themselves because their love is so strong for each other they can't live without each other. Lessons: Animal farm- Power corrupts people. In Animal farm it shows how power corrupts others, the pigs wanting power affected the other animals greatly by doing extra labor and having no reward. It's important to Chrisitans because it shows what power can do to human behavior. It warns us how power makes us greedy and unfair to others. Hercules- Self control is important. Hercules' lack of self control led him to kill the people he loved and he had to carry the guilt of doing that for the rest of his life. It's important for Christians because self control is one of the fruits of the Spirit and God tells us to have self control. Romeo and Juliet- How powerful love is. Important because God's love for us is unexplainable and he sent his son to die for us. We should love God so much we're willing to die for Him
63
What makes Romeo and Juliet a tragedy?
All of the adversity that happened. Romeo and Juliet fell in love but were family enemies which complicated everything. Many characters died and it ended with Romeo and Juliet killing themselves which is a tragic ending.
64
Write why it would be important for a Christian to have some understanding of Greek Mythology
I think it's important for Christians to have the knowledge of Greek mythology bc it was in the Bible and took part of some of the stories. If we didn't understand Greek mythology, we wouldn't fully understand some of the stories in the Bible. For example, in the story of the 10 plagues, God sent them and directed each toward a god. The New Testament was also written during ancient Greek times, so knowing the culture of the ancient Greeks can help us understand the NT. Paul also talked about "false religions" and without the context of knowing Greek mythology, we can get confused on what he meant by that. It's important for Christians to learn these stories because it can help us understand human nature.
65
Why is boxer a particularly tragic character
Boxer was very loyal but also naïve. He was very hardworking, but he didn't have the intelligence to realize what Napolean was doing was wrong. He worked until he fell and all the animals admired him deeply for his hard work. Boxer was innocent but he worked so hard for Napolean who was doing wrong
