Energy in food Flashcards
What is a calorie?
The amount of energy needed to raise 1 litre of water by 1 degree.
What is the burning foods practical?
You burn foods and you see the energy that each food has. Eg. if it has a very big temperature change, then it has a lot of energy.
What energy is chemical energy being converted into in this experiment?
Chemical energy is being converted to thermal energy.
What are control variables in this investigation?
- Mass of food.
- Mass of water.
- Distance of food from water.
When heating, what setting should the Bunsen Burner be on?
The Bunsen burner should be on the blue flame when heating.
Roaring blue flame: open collar
What does this experiment relate to?
- The amount of energy we get in respiration of certain foods.
What type of flame does a closed collar on a bunsen burner produce?
Safety flame
