Endocrine System: Gland/ Hormone/Function Flashcards
Anterior Pituitary (8)
1.Growth Hormone (cell growth),2. Prolactin, (milk),3. Adrenoicorticotropic, (ACTH) (adrenals), 4. Thyroid Stim ((TSH) 5. Melanocyte Stim. (MSH) Thyroid function. 6. Melanin for skin. 7. Follicle Stimulating (FSH) Estrogen/Sperm prod. 8. leutinizing Hormone (LH) ovulation/testosterone prod.
Posterior Pituitary (2)
- Oxytocin (OT) Labor/milk prod. 2. Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) Raises BP constrict vessels/retention of urine.
Hypotahalamus (1)
Releasing and Inhibiting Hormones (regulates hormone releasing overall) works with emotions.
Thyroid (3)
- Triiodothyronine (T3), 2. Thyroxine (T4) Metabolism regulators/nervous system.3. Clacitonin- calcium absorption. Decreases blood levels.
Parathyroid (1)
Parathyroid Hormone (PTH). Increases blood levels of calcium. Removes from bones.
Pancreas (Islets of langerhans) ((3)
- Glucagon(raies blood glucose). 2. Insulin ( (Lowers Blood Glucose). 3. GH Inhibiting factor (inhibits both glucagon and Insulin.
Adrenal Cortex (3)
- Aldosterone (increases soduim reabsorption/potassium loss. 2. Cortisol 9 Inc. blood glucose levels. 3. Androgens/Estrogens (small amts.)
Testes (1)
Testosterone: Regulates male sex hormones, inc. RBC.
Adrenal Medulla (2)
Epinephrine/Noepinephrine: Increases HT/BP, Blood glucose levels. Good for stress.
Ovaries(2)
- estrogen ( fem. sex hormones) 2. Preps uterus for preg.
Pineal Gland (1)
Melatonin: Reg. circadian rythms/ reproductive rythms.
Thymus (1)
Thymosin ( reg prod of white blood cells.)
