SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors)
Decrease seratonin reuptake making more avail. Use: Mild to moderate depression CX: Hypersensitivity, Concurrent MAOI use, Delusional behavior S/E: Seizure, insomnia, puritis, palpitations, anxiety, tremor, sex dys.
MAO (monimine oxidase) Inhibitors
Inhibits enzymes that metabolize norepinephrine and dopamine. Use: Clinical depression and psychosis. CX:Impared Renal/Hepatic function, HBP, CAD, not w/ caffeine. S/E; Seizure, HBP, weight gain sex dys. edema, blurred vision.
Tricyclic Antidepressants
Decrease reabsorption of both norepinephrine and Serotonin. Use: Depression related to drug/ alcohol withdrawal. CX: Hyperthyroidism, CAD, Recovery from Ht. Attack. History of suicide attempts S/E: sedation, LBP, arrhythmias, dry mouth, urinary retention.
Hypertension Drugs (3) ABC’s
- ACE Inhibitors (vasodilator) 2. Beta-Adrenergic Blockers (reduce Ht. rate) 3. CCB’s (reduce Ht.contraction/rate)
