Bio synthetic growth hormone
Replace growth hormone successful 80% of the time give at bed time

Metaformin
Helps the absorption of sugar from diet so it helps reduce the insulin usage
Type 2 DM
8 hour fasting blood glucose
> 126 mg/dl
Random blood glucose
> 200 mg/dl w classic signs of hyperglycemia
Oral glucose tolerance test
Greater than or equal to 200 mg/dl in the 2 hour sample
Hemoglobin A1C
Greater than or equal to 6.5%
Rapid insulin
Give within 15 min of meal
Short insulin
Give 30 min before meal
intermediate insulin
Cloudy (mix it clear to cloudy
Long acting insulin
Cannot be mixed in a syringe w any other insulin has to be given as separate injection
Dilution insulation
Given to babies under 12 mo
Have to dilute to sensitivity for extremely young infants w/o dilution it can bottom out blood sugar
Conventional management of dm
Short/rapid given to conver breakfast intake
Then intermediate is gonna carry them over to next dose at supper time and repeat
Intensive therapy of DM
Seen more long acting once or twice a day plus rapid aciting proper to each meal
Mimics our body’s basal release of insulin
Glucagon
Mixed then IM or sub q or intranassally (baqsimi)
Should increase bs in 15 min
Can cause n&v so turn pt on side to prevent aspiration
Baqsimi for ages 4 and older
