Anorexia
All about a sense of control
(Where you eat, what you eat, how much you excercise
High level of distrust - think someone is lying if they tell them they are skinny
Cardiovascular medical complications from anorexia
Brady cardia, hypotension
Mitral valve prolapse (due to prolonged malnutrition)
Arrhythmias (diet pills or level of malnutrition)
Redeeming syndrome
Echo changes
Refeeding syndrome
We try to have them gain weight too quickly which can cause a lot of problems
Goal is weight gain of .5- 1 pound a wk
Dermatological medical complications anorexia
Dry skin , alopecia , lanugo , hair
Gastrointestinal med complications from anorexia
Constipation from depending on laxatives too much
Endocrine and metabolic medical complications of anorexia
Amenorrhea, infertility , osteoporosis
Bulimia nervous
Instead of being underweight
They may be verge weight or slightly overweight
Outgoing, impulsive
Aware of problem , want help
Prone to acting out (shop lifting, self destructive behaviors- cutting, drugs, etc )
How is bulimia nervous charecterized
Recurrent binge eating 1x a wk for 3 mo
Binge eating - lack of control
Guilt
Purging
Purging
Vomiting
Laxatives and or diuretics
Fasting for days following a binge
Excessive excercise
Medical complications of BN cardiovascular
Arrhythmias
Diet pill toxicity ; palpitations
Hypertension
Medical complications of BN gastro intestinal
Esophageal rupture
Constipation r/t laxative use
Dental erosion
Parotid gland swelling ( saliva after vomiting, so they are always used causing swelling)
Metabolic typical fatality causes
Hypokalemia
Dehydration
Metabolic alkalosis

Irregular menses
Pulmonary medical complications of BN
Aspiration pneumonia

Mouth ulcers
Loss of tooth enamel

Calluses on the back of the knuckles from sticking their hands into their mouth and inducing vomiting
Binge eating disorder
Reoccurent episodes of binge eating 1x a wk for 3 mo
Bulemia w/o the purge
Avoidant / restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
Fear of certain foods due to the way the smell, taste, and feel.
Resulting in failure to grown and develop as expected and or significant weight loss
Nutritional deficiencies are common and may become life threatening
Other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED)
Person wakes in the middle of the night and eats large amounts of food
Fridge next to bed , wake up binge eat and go back to sleep
Associated with low melatonin levels
Enmeshed family
Family decides everything, no boundaries , not encouraged to think differently than the amity and if you do you dont fit in with them
What works with enmeshed family
Therapy as a family to teach boundaries and about earring disorder
Food addiction
Uncontrollable eating ,
Drunkorexia
Starvation or binge eating/purging combined with alcohol is it can result in alcohol intoxication, and electrolyte in balance
Pregorexia
Attempting to remain slim while pregnant
Post bariatric surgery

Individuals who have type 1 diabetes who reduce their insulin to lose weight

Accepting negative emotions you feel them and learn to let them go

Food journaling what they ate and drank and how they feel about it , try to change perception
Behavioral contracts -An agreement that the pt makes with others to change a maladaptive behavior / written contract

Used in pt with BN and binge eating disorders to treat depression and suicidal ideation

Setraline (Zoloft)
Citalopram (celexa)
Escitalopram ( lexapro)
side effects of ssri
Headache dry mouth weight gain nervousness , nd sexual dysfunction
Tricyclic antidepressants
Affective with BN
