Emotion Flashcards
Emotion
A state of mind, or feeling, that is subjectively experienced based on circumstances, mood, and relationships
Three components of emotion
- Cognitive: Subjective
- Behavioral: Facial expressions and body language
- Physiological: Changes in autonomic nervous system
James-Lange Theory of Emotion
Behavioral and physiological actions lead to emotions. Ex: power posing
Arousal (snake) –>
heart pounding, sweating –>
fear (emotion)
Cannon-Bard Theory of Emotion
Emotional and physiological responses to a stimulus occur simultaneously. They arise from separate and independent areas of the brain
arousal (snake) –>
heart pounding, sweating AND fear (emotion)
Schachter-Singer Theory of Emotion
Two-factor theory of emotion. Physiological arousal and interpretation of context or “cognitive label” lead to emotion
arousal (snake) –>
heart pounding, sweating AND cognitive label (“I’m scared”) –>
fear (emotion)
Limbic system (emotionally)
concerned with instincts and mood
