embryology of heart and great vessels Flashcards
where does the heart come from?
- visceral mesoderm
how does the heart reach its final position?
- lateral folding
- cranio-caudal folding
what are the different heart tube regions of the heart?
- truncus arteriosus
- bulbus cordis
- ventricle
- atrium
- sinus venosus
what are the adult derivatives of the truncus arteriosus?
- aorta
- pulmonary trunk
what are the adult derivatives of the bulbus cordis?
- trabeculated part of right ventricle
- outflow part of both ventricles
what are the adult derivatives of the ventricle?
- trabeculated part of left ventricle
what are the adult derivatives of the atrium?
- trabeculated part of both atria
what are the adult derivatives of the sinus venosus? (right and left horns)
- smooth part R. atrium
- coronary sinus
how does the heart loop and fold?
- atrium > dorsal and cranial
- ventricles > displaced left
- bulbus cordis > inferiorly, ventrally to the right
how do the aortic arches develop?
- there are 6 pairs associated with pharyngeal arches
- 1 and 2 are mostly obliterated
- 5 = rudimentary of absent
- 3 = common carotid aa, fist part of ICA
- 4 = right subclavian a, part of aortic arch
- 6 = sprout branches that form pulmonary aa, ductus arteriosus on left
which vessels enter the right and left horns of the sinus venosus?
- vitelline vein
- umbilical vein
- cardinal vein
where does the vitelline vein drain?
- yolk sac
where does the umbilical veins drain?
- oxygenated blood from placenta
where does the cardinal act as precursors for?
- systemic venous system
