Embalming 3- Exam 2 Flashcards
EMBALMING CONSIDERATION
obese cases
- Increased solution strength
- Increased solution volume
- Potential multi-point injection
- Hypodermic injection may be required to supplement vascular embalming
- Special attention to cavity embalming due to high moisture content
- Plastic garments
referred to as a posted case
autopsied case
A post mortem examination of the organs and tissue of a body to determine cause of death or pathological conditions, also called a necropsy – view the dead
autopsy
post mortem examination
treatment of autopsied case
may vary for each individual case, always perform case analysis
iliac arteries lie _____ to the psoas major muscle
inferior
which injected the head which area should be injected first?
left side first
During sectional injection attention should be given to leakage from smaller arteries, including
o Internal iliac
o Internal thoracic arteries
o Base at the top of the open skull (vertebral arteries)
when you aspirate all drainage during the injection to help keep the cavities as dry as possible during the embalming process, you do what?
reduce the amount of formaldehyde presence
which suture is recommended to suture the cavities
baseball stitch
Extra steps to prevent leakage from closure of incision
Cover the incision with a layer of sealer
Place a layer of cotton over the sealer
CRANIAL AUTOPSY
Before posing features:
a. Apply massage cream thoroughly over the facial area
b. Open cranial incision
c. Remove calvarium (upper portion of the skull)
d. Remove brain, if present
e. Immerse brain in suitable embalming chemical
f. Ligate or clamp leaking vessel in the interior of cranium, this would be the internal carotids and the vertebrals – you may have to inject a small amount of fluid first
Replace and secure the calvarium with
- Calvarium clamps
- Adhesives
- Wire through drilled holes
- Suture the muscles
- Needle injector
