  • Testing an ELT
    • When can you do it
    • For how long?
A

ELT self-test on 121.5MHz or 406MHz

  • Testing on 406MHz is NOT permitted unless its coordinated with RCCNZ at least 2 working days prior to the test.
  • Tesing on 121.5 is permmited as follows:
    • No longer then 3 audio sweeps and not exceed 20 seconds; AND
    • On the Ground during the First 5 minutes after each hour.

Emergency tests outside this time need to be co-ordinated with the nearest ATS unit

  • Inadvertent Activation
    • ELT procedure prior to shutdown

Prior to engine shutdown at the end of each flight

  • Listen out on 121.5 MHz for ELT signals

If a signal is heard

  • Ensure its not your aircrafts ELT, If it is switch it off and report tot he nearest ATS unit
