Ecosystem Flashcards
Ecosystem
the relationship of a particular community of plants and animals and its non-living environment; include abiotic, climate, and biotic components
Abiotic
non-living components:
- water
- solid earth (soil)
- atmosphere (humidity, day/night length, temp.)
Climate
encompasses the temp., humidity, rainfall, and is affected by location (latitude, altitude, oceans) this in turn affects the plant community
Biotic
all living organisms
Abiotic and Biotic relationship
The biotic component depends directly on the abiotic. The abiotic determines the plant community which directly affects the types of animals that can live there
Energy Source
The energy source is the Sun
Plants use energy to make their own food
Plants give animals energy - energy is transferred into a usuable form via the food chain
Food Chain
in ecology, a food chain is the sequence of transfers of matter and energy in the form of food from organism to organism
