What was the Battle of Tippecanoe?

A
  1. Tecumseh and the Prophet were trying to build an Indian confederation to stop white westward expansion. A poorly calculated attack by the Prophet on American troops ended this hope. Neither side won, but the natives suffered major losses and the morale was shattered.

A

Ended the war on December 24, 1814. Representatives from both nations met in Ghent Belgium. Restored old territory boundaries. Didn’t solve problems that caused the war.

  • Dec 23: Britain tries to take New Orleans, but Jackson and troops defend it
  • Jan 8: Britain tries to fight troops protecting New Orleans with no cover. In one hour, 2000 Brits and only 20 Americans are dead in a 5000 v 5000 battle.
