Question 2

What drills are required/specified intervals?

Answer 2

Abandon Ship drill - monthly or when 25% personnel change (within 24 hours of leaving port if so)

Fire drill - monthly or when 25% personnel change (within 24 hours of leaving port if so)

Enclosed Space entry/rescue drill - 2 months

Rescue Boat - Launched Monthly (includes recovery of persons from water). Must not exceed 3 months (if alongside etc)

Security Drill - 3 monthly (Stowaway, Bomb Threat, Raise Marpol level, piracy)

Pollution Drills - SOPEP / As stated in SMS

Emergency Steering Drills - Every 3 months

Medical drills - as required

All drills to be recorded in the OLB and in additional to that recorded elsewhere as required by the SMS - including a report/findings and recommendations.

Operation of Drills

So far as practicable, be conducted as if there were an actual emergency

All passangers / crew are to don lifejackets and passengers are checked that they are correctly donning lifejackets.

Fire drill: Starting of a fire pump and at least two hoses charged to ensure the system is in proper working order

Checking of fireman’s outfits ans SCBA kits to ensure all in good working order.
