Drafting Midterm Flashcards
is a software application used for creating 2D and 3D designs. It is widely used in architecture, engineering, and construction.
AutoCAD
Basic Commands
- LINE
- CIRCLE
- COPY
- MOVE
- ZOOM
- OFFSET
: Creates straight lines.
- LINE
Draws circles.
- CIRCLE
Duplicates selected objects.
- COPY
Moves selected objects to a new location.
- MOVE
Zooms in and out on a drawing area.
- ZOOM
Creates parallel lines, arcs, or curves at a specified distance from the original.
- OFFSET
AutoCAD saves files in the _, which is the default for AutoCAD drawings
File Format
.dwg format
To save a drawing
SAVE command.
To exit AutoCAD
EXIT command.
Removes parts of objects that extend beyond a boundary. For example, it can cut off parts of lines that are outside a certain area.
- Steps:
1. Select the boundary objects first.
2. Then, select the parts of the object you want to trim.
TRIM Command
Lengthens objects to meet a boundary or another object. This is the opposite of TRIM.
EXTEND Command:
Divides an object into two parts without deleting either part.
BREAK Command
Pressing __ lets you cycle through possible trim options when there are multiple objects to trim.
TAB Key in TRIM
TAB
allows for precise placement and selection by snapping to specific points on objects like endpoints, midpoints, centers, and intersections.
Object Snap (OSNAP)
Common Snap Modes
- ENDPOINT
- MIDPOINT
- CENTER
- INTERSECTION
- NEAREST
Snaps to the endpoint of a line or arc.
- ENDPOINT
Snaps to the point where two objects intersect.
- INTERSECTION
Snaps to the middle of a line or arc.
- MIDPOINT
Snaps to the center of a circle or arc.
- CENTER
Snaps to the nearest point on an object.
- NEAREST
Press __ to turn OSNAP on and off.
F3
Cycles through different snap points when multiple are available.
TAB
enables automatic snapping to specified points without
needing to type the snap command every time.

Creating 3D Solids
EXTRUDE
REVOLVE
Converts a 2D shape into a 3D solid by extending it along the Z-axis.
EXTRUDE
Rotates a 2D object around an axis to create a 3D object (such as a cylinder or a sphere).
REVOLVE
Basic 3D Commands
SPHERE
CYLINDER
SWEEP
LOFT
Creates a sphere.
SPHERE
Creates a 3D cylinder.
CYLINDER
Sweeps a 2D profile along a path to create a 3D object.
SWEEP
Connects multiple 2D shapes to create complex 3D surfaces.
LOFT
Modifying 3D Objects
UNION
SUBTRACT
SLICE
FILLET
CHAMFER
Joins multiple 3D solids into one.
UNION
Removes one solid from another.
SUBTRACT
Cuts a 3D solid into pieces.
SLICE
Rounds the edges of a 3D object.
FILLET
Creates beveled edges on a 3D object.
CHAMFER
The __ command is used to extrude or pull a face of a solid object, often used to modify or stretch a solid.
PRESSPULL Command:
PRESSPULL
Viewing 3D Models
ORBIT
VISUALSTYLES
Changes the appearance of a 3D model, like displaying in Wireframe, Shaded, or Realistic styles.
VISUALSTYLES
Allows you to freely rotate around a 3D object to view it from different angles.
ORBIT
Use the __ command to create a 2D section from a 3D model, often used in architectural and mechanical designs.

Key Concepts to Remember
- Accuracy with OSNAP
- TRIM and EXTEND
- 3D Modeling
- Modifying 3D Objects
Object snaps allow for precise drawing and are essential for aligning objects in both 2D and 3D designs.
Accuracy with OSNAP
removes excess parts of objects
TRIM
stretches objects to meet a boundary.
EXTEND
AutoCAD supports powerful 3D tools like _, _, _, and _ to create complex solid models.
3D Modeling
EXTRUDE, SWEEP, REVOLVE, and LOFT
Commands like _, _, and _ allow for easy manipulation of 3D solids to meet design requirements.
