During run-up on a high ambient temperature day the APU OIL TEMP HI caution illuminates, what action is required?

A

(CH 9) APU CONTR switch - OFF. Do not attempt restart until oil level has been checked.

(CH2) During ground operation at high ambient temperatures the APU OIL TEMP HI caution may appear. If this occurs, the APU should be shut down immediately to prevent damage. After a 30-minute cooling period, the oil level should be checked.

Q

Based on the following cruise PPC the aircraft is about to enter IMC conditions. Assuming the cockpit and/or Option II heater are on, should the engine anti-ice be turned on and if so, what effect will it have on aircraft performance?

A
  • Yes, the conditions dictate that ENG ANTI-ICE should be on. But application of both ENG ANTI-ICE and cockpit/gunner heater reduces available torque by 22%, which is less than required cruise torque. This could droop the rotor.
  • Regarding option II heater: (CH7A)
    NOTE
Option II cabin heater system shuts off when anti-ice is turned on. Power to the heater returns when the anti-ice is turned off.
