DPYD overview- Pharmaco genetic test Flashcards
With DPYD, what are we analyzing?
DNA, DPYD genes and testing for 5 alleles, variants etc… in the DPYD gene.
Is this an add-on to xT?
Yes
What has to be submitted with this to get results?
The “normal match” because it’s a germline test.
What will this test tell us?
identifies potential toxicity to 5-FU and capecitabine (two most common drugs for chemo) We are testing to see if the patient has toxicity to these two drugs.
which organizations guidelines do NOT indicate DPYD gene analysis should be performed prior to administering 5-FU or Cap?
FDA
what are the three different phenotypic classifications which could appear as a result on a DPYD report?
- Intermediate metabolizer, has increased risk to 5-FU and Cap.
- The CORE metabolizers could have a fatal reaction. An estimated .1% of patients will be recognized as “Core metabolizers”
- Normal, meaning we did not detect any variants. They aren’t at an increased risk.
which clinicians should DPYD testing potentially be discussed with?
Any doctor who administers these drugs.
