Q

What will this test tell us?

A

identifies potential toxicity to 5-FU and capecitabine (two most common drugs for chemo) We are testing to see if the patient has toxicity to these two drugs.

Q

what are the three different phenotypic classifications which could appear as a result on a DPYD report?

A
  1. Intermediate metabolizer, has increased risk to 5-FU and Cap.
  2. The CORE metabolizers could have a fatal reaction. An estimated .1% of patients will be recognized as “Core metabolizers”
  3. Normal, meaning we did not detect any variants. They aren’t at an increased risk.
