Directional and kinesiology terminology, body planes Flashcards
1. Understand and describe basic kinesiology terms: planes and directions 2. Understand Joint Actions: anatomical movement
Anterior
relating to the front of the animal
Posterior
relating to the back of the animal
caudal
toward the tail
cranial
toward the head
distal
distant from the point of reference / toward the free end of a limb
proximal
near the point of reference / toward the attached end of a limb
dorsal
toward the top of the animal
ventral
toward the underside of the animal
lateral
toward the side/flank of the body (outside, away from the median plane)
bilateral
referring to both sides
medial
toward the midline of the body (inside, closer to the median plane)
supra
above
infra
below
rostral
toward the nose (replace ‘cranial’ when discussing the head)
palmar
replace ‘ventral’ when discussing the base of the foreleg paw
plantar
replace ‘ventral’ when discussing the base of the hind leg paw
extension
draw the bones of a joint away from one another
flexion
draw the bones of a joint towards one another
abduction
movement away from the midline of the body
adduction
movement toward the midline of the body
median plane 正中矢狀面
divide the dog’s body into right and left halves
sagittal plane 矢狀面
any plane parallel to the median plane
transverse/horizontal plane 水平面/橫狀面
pass through the head. trunk or limb perpendicular to the long axis of the part
dorsal/frontal/coronal plane 冠狀面
pass through a body part parallel to its dorsal surface
