What are the six functions of the digestive system?
Ingestion, mechanical processing, digestion, secretion, absorption, excretion
What organs are a part of the GI tract?
Oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus
What are the accessory digestive organs?
Salivary glands, teeth, tongue, liver, gallbladder, pancreas
There are 4 layers that make up the general structure of the GI tract. What are they?
(1) Mucosa
(2) Submucosa
(3) Muscularis externa
(4) Serosa
The mucosa can be further divided into three layers. What are they?
(1) Lining epithelium
(2) Lamina propria
(3) Muscularis mucosa
What’s the lamina propria of the mucosa composed of (i.e., tissue type)?
Loosely arranged connective tissue
