DF6 + DF7 Flashcards
Alkenes
unsaturated hydrocarbons, general formula CnH2n
Alkenes; boiling points
increase as the number of carbon atoms increase
Sigma-bond
a single bond
Pi-bond
present in a double bond, consists of two areas of negative charge, one above and one below the line of atoms
Reaction mechanisms
showing the movement, bond polarity and charges in a reaction
Carbocation
an ion with a positively charged carbon atom, they react very quickly with anything that has electrons to share
Electrophile
positive ions/particles with a partial positive charge on one atom that are attracted to the negatively charged region in double bonds and react by accepting a pair of electrons from the double bond
Addition reaction
where 2+ molecules react to form a single large molecule
polymer
long chain molecule made up of small repeating units called monomers
A-A polymer
when all the monomers used in the polymerisation reaction are the same
A-B polymer
when two different monomers are used in the polymerisation reaction, monomers will alternate
copolymerisation
where more than one typ of monomer is used in addition polymerisation, and both monomers are incorporated into the final polymer (copolymer)
