Development + Parts of CNS Flashcards
Stages of development of CNS + time frame
- Conception
+1-2 days - Development of neural tube
+1-2days - Dividing of neural tube into Primary Brain Vesicles
+4-6days - Further development + dividing into Secondary Brain Vesicles (adult brain structures)
Components of neural tube
cells + embryotic fluid
Parts of Primary Brain Vesicles
anterior -> posterior
- Procencephalon
- Mescencephelalon
- Rhombencephalon
Parts of Secondary Brain Vesicles
(anterior-> posterior)
- Telencephalon
- Diencephalon
- Mesencephalon
- Metencephalon
- Myelencephalon
- Spinal Cord
How does the primary brain vesicles divide into the secondary brain vesicles
Procencephalon-> Telencephalon + Diencephalon
Mescencephalon-> Mesencephalon
Rhombencephalon-> Metencephalon + Myelencephalon
Telencephalon
continues to grow in side with liquid, then liquid drains prior to birth.
forms the external brain (cerebral hemispheres)
Diencephalon
interior brain-> 3rd ventricle
contains: thalamus, epithalamus, hypothalamus
Mesencephalon
interior brain
contains: mid-brain and cerebral aqueduct
Metencephalon
interior brain-> 4th ventricle
contains: pons + cerebellum
Myelencephalon
interior brain-> 4th ventricle
contains: Medulla oblongata
parts of the hindbrain
metencephalon + myelencephalon
parts of the brain stem
mesencephalon, metencephalon, myelencephalon
