Describe the project; what was your brief?
I received an instruction from my client to provide the school with a secure entrance lobby to improve safeguarding and accessibility.
The works involved but not limited to:
- New entrance door
- New ramp
- Partition walls to create office and secure lobby
- Access system
I was appointed by client to provide a secure entrance lobby at the school to improve safeguarding and accessibility.
What did the role of Project Manager involve?
- Agreeing a design with the school
- Ensured the agreed design complied to current building regulations
- Producing the tender package and managing the works
- Ensure client satisfaction
What was the slope of the ramp?
1:12, as per approved document M volume 2.
The site had an internal ramp which did not comply with the current building regulations and was causing issues for visitors and staff, particularly those with mobility issues. I specified to remove the internal ramp and raising the level to carry through flush with the existing floor. I proceeded to specify an external ramp which I referred to approved document M for the design requirements.

Reinforced concrete. I referred to NHBC for expansion joint requirements. Kee Klamp handrail - 900mm height with 450mm intermediate rail.
What was the construction of the external wall you installed?
I used timber frame wall.
