reduced facial expression; furrowed brwo; limited eye contact; limited gesturing; difficult to establish rapport
What is seen in speech in depression?
reduced rate, volume and intonation; lowerd pitch; increased latencies; limited content
What is affect?
mood applied to things eg events; people- objective
What is the mood in depression?
low. miserable, “flat”; empty , black
What is affect in dpression?
dpression; reduced range; limited reactivity
What ist he form of thought in depression?
slow, pondering
What is teh thought content in depression?
negative, self-accusatory, failure, guilt low self esteem, pessimism
What are the hallucinations seen in depression?
almost always auditory; second person and derogatory; reflect depression
What is seen in cognition with depression?
slow and poor memory (probably to do with inattention); working memory; attention and planning
What is seen in insight with depression?
preserved- aware of symptoms
What are the general criteria for diagnosis of depression?
should last at least 2 weeks; no hypomanic or manic symptoms sufficient to meet the criterai at any time in the individuals life
What are the 3 core features of depression?
depressed mood; loss of interest or pleasure; decreased energy
What are the additional symptoms of depression?
loss of confidence or self-esteem; unreasonable feeling of guilt; suicidal behaviour; enability to concentrate; changei npsychomotor activty- agitation or retardation; sleep disturbance; change in appetite
How many symptoms is needed for a diagnosis of moderate depression?
2/3 core symptoms and 4 additional symptoms
How many symptoms are needed for a diagnosis of severe depression?
3 core symptoms; 5 additional symptoms
What are the symptoms of somatic syndrome?
loss of pleasure; lack of emotional reactions; early morning wakening; worse in morning; psychomotor retardation/agitation; marked loss of appetite and weight loss; loss of libido
What is atypical depression?
mood reactivity; signif weight gain; hypersomnia; leaden paralysis; long-standing pattern of interpersonal rejection sensitivity
What is Cotard’s syndrome?
psychotic depression- often nihilistic delusions where think are dead or have lost organs - mre common in the elderly
