1- understand and retain relevant information; 2- use and weigh that information to make a secision; 3- communicate that decision
What information does someone need to understand to consent to an intervention?
1- what the intervention is; its nature and purpose; 2- main benefits/risks/alternative; 3- consequences of not receiving intervention
What are the 5 principles of the AWI act?
1-intervention must benefit the adult;2- benefit cannnot be reasonably achieved without the intervention; 3-take account of past and present wishes; 4-consult with other relevant persons; 5-encourage adult to use residual capacity

likely to have a mental disorder; significantly impaired decision-making ability regarding treatment due to mental disorder; detention is necessary as a matter of urgency; risk of health,safety of welfare of person or safety of others; short term detention would involve undesirable delay
What is the criteria for short term detention?
likely to have a mental disorder; significanctly impaired decision making ability regarding treatment due to mental disorder; detention is necessary; risk to person or others; cannot be treated voluntarily
