What are the features of social motivation seen in ASD?
lack of theory of mind; only interested in people to meet needs and happy with own company
What is theory of mind?
the basic ability to understand that other people have different thoughts
What are the porblems in social ability in ASD?
problems reading adn transmitting social cues; overlaps with fixed thinking style- metaphor, irony and social rituals are confusing
What are hte features of inflexible or systematic thinking in ASD?
problems with social fit; change/transitions often very distressing; interests in systematic or logical themes
What are hte common comorbidities in ASD?
LD; anxity (esp. social anxiety); depression; ADHD; dyspraxia; spcific language delay and impairments and sensory differences/sensory defensiveness
What are the types of language deficits seen in ASD?
no speech; confuse pronouns (theory of mind); odd prosody (social communication); echolalia (stimming)
What are the most common sensory differences in ASD?
struggle with sound and texture
What is severe autism usually cormorbid with?
LD; language; AHD; repeated self-harm or other behavioural issues
What is mild autism often comorbid with?
inattention/ppoor organistion; anxiety and mood disorders; dyspraxia
What is the genetic componenet of ASD?
commonly relatives affected; 20% of siblings will meet diagnostic criteria

all over the brain- global inherent deficit
