Defence Mechanisms. Flashcards
What are the 2 types of defence systems and what are they ?
Immediate and specific.
Immediate is the same for all pathogens. Physical barriers such as skin and stomach acid. Or phagocytosis.
Specific is slower and pathogen specific. Such as cell mediated response and hum oral response.
What type of cells allow humoral response ?
B lymphocytes.
What type of cells allow cell mediated response ?
T lymphocytes.
What are lymphocytes and how do they work ?
A type of white blood cell which attack non self molecules.
Recognise pathogens by a receptor surface on their cell surface that is complementary to an antigen on a pathogen.
Either T or B cells.
What do B cells do and where are they matured ?
Produce antibodies.
Bone marrow.
What do T cells do and where are they matured ?
Immunity involving body cells.
Thymus gland.
