what are the symptoms of gonorrheal infections ?
urethral discharge starts off as scanty, pale or white
then eventually progresses to
profuse and grossly purulent and may occasionally blood stained
accompanied by dysuria
what other condition could be associated with gonococcal urethritis ?
meatitis , which is inflammation of the opening of the penis
what other co infection is associated with gonorrhea ?
chlamydia
what is the treatment for gonorrhea ?
azithromycin as it also targets co-infection of chlamydia
what is the most commonn isolated pathogen that is associated with non-gonococcal urethritis ?
chlamydia
what other organisms are associated with non-gonococcal urethritis ?
mycoplasma genitalium
ureaplasmaurealyticum
what are the symptoms of non-gonococcal urethritis ?
urethral discharge is a lot less dramatic than in GC and in mild cases may only be noticeable after not urinating for a few hours
what is proctitis ?
inflammation of the lining of the rectum
which group of people are more likely to have proctitis ?
MSM who are anoreceptive
what is the presentation of a male presenting with proctitis ?
rectal mucosa oedema and mucopurulent rectal exudate may be seen on protoscopy
what are the isolated organisms related to proctitis ?
chlamydia
gonorrhea
on examination if there is yellow/green discharge what is the most likely diagnosis ?
