What is Critical Theory?
seeks to confront the social, historical, and ideological forces and structures that produce and constrain oc.
How important is the word “Struggle” in critical theory?
Very important
What does critical theory Argue?
- Power and control, can work subtly, simplicity, indirectly and covertly
- Works by not threatening people to do things, but more getting to have people do things as a result of their own free will, and as a result of their own choices.
What are “Ideologies” within OC?
Are created and maintained as OC members engage in foundational activities.
What are forms of resistance against control?
- Ability to Criticize Managers
- Ability to leave, or not do job.
- If I am constantly defending myself, that can be a form of resistance. But can also perpetuate the problems at hand.
What is Postmodernist Critical Theory?
- Post modernism helps us understand, to look at organizations as places where big societal changes are happening. (Ex - New companies with new ideals and ways of doing things.)
What is a “Grand Narrative”?
: localized representations of restricted domains, none of which has a claim to universal truth status. Critics suggest that this could be seen as just another grand narrative, and some have seen it as Eurocentric.
