• What is the Data Protection Act 2018?

A

It is the UKs implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation 2016
It relates to how the government and organisations need to follow rules on how the manage people’s data. Also, it gives more power to individuals on how their data is used

• What rights does it give individuals?

A

It gives you the right to find out what information the government and other organisations store about you. These include the right to:
• be informed about how your data is being used
• access personal data
• have incorrect data updated
• have data erased
• stop or restrict the processing of your data
• data portability (allowing you to get and reuse your data for different services)
• object to how your data is processed in certain circumstances

Relates to personal data
Aims to create a single data protection regime for anyone doing business in the EU and to empower individuals to take control of how their data is used by third parties
Gives people stronger rights to be informed about how their personal information is used

  • The GDPR is also supplemented by a new data protection act which fills in sections of the regulation that were left to individual member states to interpret and implement,
  • Age consent for data processing is at for GDPR 16 and DPA at 13

A

  • In relation to Health and safety, data collected when it is necessary, with your employers or the regulatory authorities. People were made aware of when data was shared.
  • Clean desk policy
