Location: inner city area of Huddersfield, North England
History: known for textiles, wool. An ideal location as close to the pennines, with sheep farming and soft water ideal for wool washing, luddites history
Natural features: steep relief, close proximity to pennines, river Colne, soft rock: Flintstone.
Culture: industrial revolution brought migrants from Ireland, Poland, South East Asia, and Caribbean looking for work, ww2 brought people from commonwealth, Caribbean carnival in July yearly, different religious buildings.
Built environment: University built, former terrace dousing for workers now uni accommodation, 2 canals:Broad and narrow
Politics: located in 2 wards, Dalton (labour) and Newcomer (green), political conflict, Harold Wilson former pm from here.

threlkeld place profile
Location: rural village in North West England, Cumbria, Lake District.
History: former working environment for farming, industrial revolution meant it was dominated by mining (lead and zinc) and quarrying (granite). Shut down in 1980s.
Natural features: mountainous, belancathra (868m), river, streams and waterfall, u-shaped valley.
Culture: only few migration, 97% white, 0.6% Asian, no other ethnic minorities.
Built enviornment: cottages previously used as farming cottages now holiday homes. There was a TB sanitorium ideal in Threlkeld as it was isolated and fresh air, it is now a blencathra field study centre.
Politics: Threlkeld has a hamlet(Threlkeld quarry), Threlkeld and the quarry are split between different mps, different boroughs, and parish councils.
Socio-economic: 16% professional occupation, 32% economically inactive, 13% in socially rented housing.
