Q

Apomorphine

A

A medication that treats “off” episodes in Parkinson’s.

It mimics the action of dopamine. Dopamine acts as neurotransmitter/messenger.

Dopamine is also one of the ways your brain controls your movements — low levels of dopamine in certain areas of the brain causes Parkinson’s disease.

Q

Long QT Syndrome (LQTS)

Give a brief definition.

A

LQTS is a condition that affects repolarization (relaxation) of the ventricles.

This leads to an increased likelihood of arrhythmia.

Arrhythmia (most commonly TdP) can lead to fainting, drowning, seizures, cardiac arrest - sudden death.

Normal QT interval =
.360s to .440s.
LQT = >.480s.
