Coordination and Responses Flashcards
What is the Central Nervous System
The CNS is the part of the nervous system that coordinates and controls responses, consisting of brain and spinal cord
What are the Endocrine Glands
The Endocrine Glands are a collection of cells that secrete hormones into the body
What is Geotropism
Geotropism is a growth response in plants affected by the direction of the gravitational force
What is insulin
Insulin is a hormone which is produced by the pancreas that causes muscle and liver cells to take glucose from the blood
What is Oestrogen
Oestrogen is s hormone which is produced in the ovaries, it controls the menstrual cycle and produces secondary sexual characteristics in girls.
What is phototropism
Phototropism is a growth response in plants, affected by light
What is progesterone
Progesterone is a hormone produced in the ovaries that helps to control the menstrual cycle
What is a stimulus
A stimulus is a change in the environment that triggers a response in an organism
What is testosterone
Testosterone is a hormone produced by the testes that produces secondary sexual characteristics in boys
What is a Hormonal system
Chemical response system where hormones produced in the endocrine gland and carried in the blood to where they effect the cells
Definition of what Nerves are
Nerves are bundles of cells that connect receptors to the CNS and vice verser
What is a Neurone
A Neurone is a nerve cell which carries electrical impulses
What is the Nervous system
The nervous system is a response system in humans that uses electrical impulses
Stimulus -> receptor -> sensory neuron -> CNS -> motor neuron -> effector -> response
What are sense organs
Organs which contain receptor cells adapted for the receiving of a particular type of stimulus
What is a target organ
An organ which contain cells to respond to a particular hormone
