Construction Technology 2 Flashcards
Allendale Road: Why did you use an inverted system?
Offered an enhanced level of protection due to the proposed foot fall appose to a warm of cold system.
Allendale Road: Tell me the composition of the inverted system? And discuss each element.
- Surfacing / Ballast (e.g. paving or pebbles)
- Water Flow Reducing Layer
- Inverted Roof Insulation Boards (e.g. extruded or expanded polystyrene)
- Waterproofing System
- Structural Deck (e.g. concrete)
1 Top of roof
5 Bottom of roof.
Allendale Road: What were the paving sitting on?
Paving supports / pedestals
Allendale Road: Why were the paving sitting on adjustable pedestals?
To provide a level surface for the paving as tapered thermal insulation was used.
Allendale Road: Why did you use a bitumen system to the terrace appose to a single ply?
More robust due to having multiple layers (usually 3, 2nr under layers and a top layer) appose to the single ply (1 layer).
Robustness required due to the proposed use.
Allendale Road: Why was a SE required?
To determine the increased live and dead loads and if any upgrade works were required to accommodate.
Allendale Road: What were the live loads and what are dead loads?
Live loads = people
Dead loads = bitumen roof covering (heavy), paving, furnishings etc
