Simple partial – remain conscious, brief episode of hallucinations or ‘butterflies’ in stomach, fear, illusions.
Complex partial – altered level of consciousness, may smack lips or chew, plucking or fiddling.
Febrile convulsion

Commonly affect children between 6months and 6 years

A generalised convulsion lasting > 30 minutes

A series of convulsions lasting 30 minutes with no periods of recovery (fully conscious) in between.

Treatment
Assess DRcABCDE
Oxygen if necessary (SpO2 94-98%)
Measure & record BM and treat if necessary
A&E with pre-alert
Cauda Equina
What is it ?
Rare condition
Severe compression of all the nerves in the lower back
Symptoms
‘Saddle Parasthesia’ & leg weakness
Numbness of skin around anus
Loss of bladder or bowel control causing incontinence
OR loss of bladder control causing urine retention
Can lead to permanent damage if left untreated
Cauda Equina
Treatment
Pain relief if necessary
Careful handling
Transportation to A&E
