Conceptual art
Dialogue with the spectator about ideas. Use of language important origin and central part of conceptual art. Written proposals, photos, documents, charts, maps, film, video and body

They did not use traditional characteristics such as: use of colour, depiction of shapes, application of media and, composition.
Subject matter and use of media
Dominant aspects. Nature of art questioned through process of planning or decision-making. Had a strong socio-political background: was manifested in artworks showing dissatisfaction with society and government policies.
What is an aspect that not all artist take into account
Composition. Some take it into account when placing objects or printed words within an exhibition space. Physical object not as important as idea or concept.
Words and language
Became as important a artwork images. Based on intellect rather that visual experience. Challenged the idea that an artwork should be a physical object. Contributed to dematerialisation of the art object.

Through its description and could be endlessly repeated, without any uniqueness

Removed. Aim of artist more important than the execution of it. Life and art integrated in artworks: led to paradox b/c art became personal, but focused on an personal concept

The blurring of boundaries between art and the everyday. Artists stopped using gallery space. Used performance, video, the earth or books as mediums or subject matter
What happened to the role of the artist and the spectator
Artist was the instigator, interpreter and judge. The spectator sometimes had to complete the artwork.
