Analytical Cubism Flashcards

1
Q

Analytical phase

A

Braque and Picasso realised they were working towards the same direction and decided to work together. Picasso’s concern with shape is liked with Braque’s more painterly approach and is interest in space. Objects were broken up into geometrically shaped areas/ facets. Always based on reality, but the subject became very difficult to recognise. They didn’t want to work abstractly

Flattened. Distinction between background and foreground basically disappears. They were involved in the process of visual investigation, they emphasised the flat quality of the canvas
